Flowers Are Good For You
Today’s fast paced and high tech lifestyles are commonplace for our modern society. However, more and more people are looking to slow down, be more mindful and relieve stress. Spending time in green space or bringing nature into your everyday life can benefit both your mental and physical wellbeing. Doing things like growing food or flowers, exercising outdoors or being around animals can improve your mood and reduce anxiety. We are all familiar with the term FLOWER POWER, but with a number of studies focusing on the effects of flowers on human behaviour, it turns out there may be REAL power behind those petals.
OK here’s the science bit….
Psychologist Jeanette Haviland-Jones conducted a study at Rutgers University which concluded that flowers create immediate joy and happiness, and increase life satisfaction.
A key indicator of this was the participants responding to receiving flowers with TRUE SMILES. Scientists refer to this as the ‘Duchenne Smile’ which involves involuntary reflexes (no fake smiles whatsoever!). The study also found that positive moods lasted for days and even led to more positive connections with family and friends.
A later study at the same university showed that men who receive flowers also demonstrate increased social interaction and happiness.
Another study on flowers presented to elderly participants found flowers had immediate and long-term effects on emotional reactions, mood, social behaviours and even memory.
Psychologists from the University de Bretagne showed that people were actually more attracted to others when flowers were simply in their presence. So not only do flowers make us happy they make us more attractive- lucky for us florists!
Here at Mr Florista, we get to experience this flower power first hand through our Random Acts of Flowers. Not only do we get to deliver the best flowers in the beautiful city of Bath, the anticipation whilst on delivery routes to our chosen charity, independent business or nominated hero is a feeling you cannot beat! Handing over a bunch of fresh blooms immediately puts a smile on their face and on ours and on the people all around us! Its actually infectious and lasts all day!
We also get a glimpse of the reason people send flowers too. Birthdays, new babies, new homes or any other occasion are all perfectly good reasons to send flowers. However, what is most amazing to see is that more and more people are sending flowers just because. Just because they are thinking of someone, or just to simply brighten their day.
We really care about the feedback we get from our customers and its lovely to hear how our flowers are flourishing and creating a little joyous impact in their new homes. The feedback we have received so far has proved that our flower subscriptions make people happy on a regular! This is especially apparent with our gift subscriptions. Why? - A flower subscription from a loved one is the gift that keeps on giving. Recurring flower arrangements are a wonderful way to remind someone why they are special, over and over again!
This new scientific proof that flowers are good for us and that they make us instantly happy means buying flowers as a gift is an absolute no brainer. Whether it be tropical flowers or seasonal stems, a tiny flower is enough to slap a smile on anyone’s face. So do not underestimate those delicate petals because one thing is for sure, flowers make us happy, flowers are good for us and FLOWER POWER IS REAL.
